The mother of talk show queen Oprah Winfrey says that she shouldn’t have to pay a $155,547 bill to a high-end fashion store because the store shouldn’t have extended credit to her. Valentina Inc. alleges that Vernita Lee racked up the almost $156,000 in purchases and interest as of July 1. The company sued Lee saying she fell behind in minimum monthly payments of $2,000.
Lee has filed a counterclaim contending that Valentina took advantage of her “lack of knowledge, ability, and-or capacity” when approving her credit account. Court documents show that Lee resolved a 2002 case with the company over a $175,000 bill. The resolution from the prior incident prohibited Valentina from extending credit to Lee again which the company violated.
I know, I know. Everybody is thinking the same thing. Why doesn’t Oprah just cough up those stacks ??? Well all that I can say is it’s tough when you’re on the outside looking in. I’m sure Oprah offered but her mother seems to be a very strong, independent woman. She probably turned down Oprah’s help. I remember a story Oprah’s friend Gayle King told about a card that Oprah gave her one Christmas that had a check in it for $1,000,000.00. What a fu***** Christmas that must have been. I’m sure she’d kick out a mesely $156,000 for her mom.
