As if we didn’t already know this was coming:
In 2010, LeBron James’ contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers is up and the entire NBA is salivating at the idea of getting King James on their squad. Although LeBron has continually told the media that he ain’t going anywhere and wants to spend his career in a Cavs uniform, the idea that he will bolt the Cavs for the Pistons, Nets or some other team continues to float around. It’s more so with the Nets because Bron is good friends with Jay-Z who owns a stake in the team. And in a sideline interview at a recent Nets-Cavs game, Jay-Z made it known that the Nets want King James.
“LeBron James is one of the NBA’s best players - everybody would love to have him on their team,” Jigga Man told the YES Network according to LarryBrownSports.com. “I have a personal relationship with him but that’s where it stops. His professional career is that, a business decision. If we put forth the best proposal then we would love to have him as any other team would.”
Seriously though, Bron’s friendship has to be a factor as well. What twenty-something and his boys wouldn’t want to work and hang out with Jay-Z? Plus it would be in Brooklyn, New York, just a bridge away from Manhattan which is the media capital of the United States. The Nets have a better chance of snatching LeBron than anyone else in the league.
As long as Lebron has been on Jay’s tip, this was inevitable. It doesn’t make the case for Cleveland any better when Lebron stated after a recent game that he wouldn’t hesitate to leave for a team that offered him a better chance to win multiple championships.
