Rapper MC Breed Dies

Sadly it has been confirmed that Flint, Michigan rapper MC Breed has passed away. Back in September of this year we reported that Breed collapsed during a pickup basketball game and had to be put on life support because of kidney failure. Just a few days later Breed’s condition improved dramatically and he was taken off of life support. The details of Breed’s death are very sketchy at the moment.

Breed became popular in the early 90’s when he moved to Atlanta and collaborated with artists such as Too Short and Tupac Shakur. Of all of his songs, the most memorable by most of his fans seems to be “Ain’t No Future In Yo Frontin” which became a major hit and catch phrase in the Hip Hop community. “I Gotta Get Mine”, on which the late Tupac joined Breed, is also a fan favorite by Breed. He was very nice on the microphone and will be sorely missed by his friends and family. Check out both videos to the songs mentioned below.

Update: MC Breed Recovering

Good news for Breed fans:

Flint, Michigan-based rapper MC Breed is improving after being admitted to a hospital on Friday with kidney failure, according to TMZ. The rapper - born Eric Breed - was allegedly playing basketball in Atlanta when he collapsed; he was transported from the site of the pickup game to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He has since been taken off life support.

When Breed, who has worked with the likes of Tupac and Too Short, was admitted, his kidneys were only 30 percent functional. Breed will likely need a kidney transplant and will remain in the hospital for at least another week for observation. But TMZ claims that Breed is already on the road to recovery, as he’s started recognizing faces and voices.

The 36-year-old rapper’s manager, Darryl Morris, told AllHipHop.com that Breed had to be revived three times. He said a number of rappers have been contacted about participating in a benefit concert to help Breed with his medical expenses. “We are hoping we can find Breed a kidney through this process, before it’s too late,” Morris told the site.

MC Breed was preparing to release an album titled Original Breed, featuring a guest spot from Too Short. The rapper will also issue a DVD about his life titled “Where is MC Breed.”

MC Breed On Life Support After Collapse

Flint, Michigan rapper MC Breed is in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital in Atlanta, where he is on life support due to kidney failure.

His manager, Darryl Morris, said the rapper, born Eric Breed, was playing a game of pickup basketball yesterday evening (September 5) in Atlanta, when he collapsed and fell unconscious.

“He had to be rushed to the hospital where they diagnosed him and told him his kidney’s have failed.”

Now, MC Breed, 36, is in serious need of a kidney transplant and is seeking a donor to help save his life.

Morris told the press that a number of rappers are being contacted to participate in a benefit concert for the revered rapper, which will take place in his hometown of Michigan.

“We are hoping we can find Breed a kidney through this process, before its too late,” Morris told the press.
MC Breed became a fixture in Hip-Hop after he released his hit single “Aint No Future in Yo Frontin,’” as MC Breed & DFC in 1991, on the independent Atlanta based label, Ichiban Records.

The success of that single led to a meeting with rap legend the D.O.C. around 1992 in Saint Louis and an entrance into West coast’s inner Hip-Hop circle at the time - Suge Knight, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Richie Rich, Yo-Yo, Coolio, The Dogg Pound, Too $hort and others.

Another chance meeting with Tupac Shakur at a Los Angeles tattoo parlor led MC Breed to record the Gold selling hit single “Gotta Get Mines” in 1993.

Throughout the years, MC Breed released material consistently, producing a total of 15 album, mostly on independent labels. He also recorded with a number of rappers, including MC Eiht, Jazze Pha, George Clinton, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Rappin 4Tay, E40, to name a few.

The rapper ran afoul of the law in May of 2006, when he was sentenced to a year in prison for failing to pay almost $200,000 in back child support.

He was rearrested in April 2008, again for failing to pay back child support totaling over $220,000.

MC Breed was preparing to release an album titled Original Breed featuring Too $hort, as well as a DVD about his life titled “Where is MC Breed,” which showcases rare footage, while chronicling his 17-year-journey as an artist.

If you don’t know who Breed is, check out one of his most popular colaborations with the one and only 2Pac. The song is titled “I Gotta Get Mine” and is still played by many DJ’s today.
