More Guns Found In Search At Plaxico Buress’ Home

Things seem to be looking worse for the star wide out for the Giants:

Police have seized a small cache of weapons and ammunition from the New Jersey home of New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, the New York Post and Newsday both reported Wednesday, possibly setting up the embattled player for more legal trouble.

The Post, citing anonymous law enforcement sources, said a 9-mm handgun, a rifle and ammunition for three other guns — a .380, a .45 and a .40, the same caliber of gun Burress accidentally shot himself with — were seized during the execution of a search warrant at Burress’ home in Totowa.

Benjamin Brafman, the star receiver’s criminal attorney, said Tuesday night that he was aware of only a rifle being taken from the home.

“I believe it was registered, but we’re looking into that now,” Brafman said. “I’m not informed at this time that he is facing additional charges.”

If the weapons are unregistered, Burress could face more charges in New Jersey in addition to the two felony gun-possession charges he was slapped with following the accidental shooting at a Manhattan nightclub last month.

“It is not illegal in New Jersey to have a registered weapon in your home,” Brafman said.

Burress was not at home during the search by Totowa police, the NYPD and officials from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office — though sources said his wife was at home. Brafman said his client is “out of town” but did not elaborate.

Also found in the search — but not seized, since it was unconnected to any criminal allegations — was a suitcase full of money.

Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at the Latin Quarter nightclub on Nov. 29 when he fumbled with an unlicensed handgun tucked into the waistband of his sweat pants. He checked himself into New York-Cornell Hospital and later turned himself in to police.

The Giants suspended the Burress for the rest of the season following the shooting and also withheld $1 million owed to him as part of his signing bonus.

The Super Bowl Hero is due back in court on March 31 and faces up to 3½ years in prison on each count.

As we reported yesterday, Burress was also sued last week in Florida’s Broward County Circuit Court for rear-ending a woman in May while driving his nearly $140,000 Mercedes-Benz without insurance.

Compounding the Super Bowl star’s defense, according to a document provided by the woman’s attorney, is the fact his car insurance lapsed three days before the crash. A letter from Allstate says Burress neglected to pay his premiums.

This guy continues to disappoint. It’s hard to support someone who is just so DAMN STUPID !!!

Plaxico Burress Drives A $140,000 Benz With No Insurance

Man Plaxico has the be the dumbest a$$ I’ve ever seen:

Before he shot himself up in a NYC club, Plaxico Burress allegedly rear-ended a Florida woman’s car — and didn’t have insurance.

Plax was sued last week in Broward County by a woman who says she got back and neck injuries after a May 16 car crash involving the Giant’s $140,000 Benz. What’s worse, she says she’s got proof Burress’ insurance expired three days before the crash because he hadn’t paid the premium.

Alise Smith, the plaintiff, wants $15K for medical bills, lost wages, and damages to her car.

Some people just can’t deal with the success that they’ve been blessed with. What an idiot !!!

Giants Snatch Plaxico Burress’ Signing Bonus

Giants Snatch Plaxico Burress’ Signing Bonus

Like as Deshawn told Lisa on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, “Yall contracts aint guaranteed”, referring to the fact that NBA players have guaranteed money and NFL players don’t. Plaxico is about to feel what Deshawn was talking about:

Giant’s receiver Plaxico Burress will not be receiving the $1 million signing bonus that was due as part of the contract he signed with the New York Giants in September.

The Giants are refusing to pay the money in the wake of his weapon possession charges relating to the Nov. 29 incident in which he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub.

The NFL Players Association union spokesman Carl Francis confirmed Wednesday evening that the Super Bowl champions decided to not make the payment, which was due Wednesday.

“We will file a claim in the appropriate forum to enforce his right to receive and keep the moneys entitled to him under his player contract,” Francis said.

The Players Union on Tuesday filed a grievance challenging the Giants’ decision to suspend and fine Burress last week following the shooting incident. The union said the Giants violated the collective bargaining agreement by placing Burress on the reserve-non football injury list, suspending him for the final four games of the regular season and fining him an additional week’s salary for conduct detrimental to the team.

The grievances will be heard by an arbitrator after the season ends. Burress pleaded not guilty to the gun charge and is due back in court on March 31.

Antonio Pierce To Testify To Grand Jury On Burress Shooting

Antonio Pierce To Testify To Grand Jury On Burress Shooting

In a bid to save himself from charges, Pierce has agreed to testify at the Grand Jury hearing:

New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, vowing to play Sunday, will testify before a grand jury looking into the details behind teammate Plaxico Burress shooting himself at a nightclub.

Making his first public comments since he and Burress were involved in the incident last Saturday, Pierce said little beyond saying he was focused as well as ever upon playing and would be on the field Sunday against Philadelphia.

“I’m not speaking about any of the events that happened on Saturday,” Pierce said. “I go about my business as normal, getting the strategies, going out there on the practice field and executing my plays.

“My colleagues never worry about me being focused on the game.”

Pierce’s attorney Michael Bachner told radio station WFAN that Pierce would testify to a grand jury about the incident, which brought two charges of criminal weapons possession against receiver Burress.

The New York Post reported that Pierce’s testimony would come before Sunday and seal the case against Burress and help Pierce avoid charges on allegations he attempted to hide the gun after the shooting when they were at the club.

If convicted, Burress faces between three and a half to 15 years in jail.

Pierce might still face punishment from the National Football League for any role in the incident, something that would not require charges filed against him. But as of now, Pierce is set to play when the Giants meet the Eagles.

“Come Sunday, Antonio’s number 58 should be on the field and will be on the field,” Pierce said.

Bachner said Pierce was unaware Burress had a gun with him until it was accidentally fired and unaware that Burress had given a false name to workers at the hospital where he was taken after shooting himself in the leg.

Bachner did not comment when asked if Pierce took the gun to Burress’ home and gave it to the receiver’s wife, Tiffany.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Giants fined Burress and suspended him for four games, the remainder of the regular season for violating team rules and conduct detrimental to the team.

The Giants then officially ended his season Tuesday by placing him on the injured list.

The National Football League Players Association expects to file a grievance against the Giants, saying their punishment of Burress violates the collective bargaining agreement between the union and the league.

I can just hear all the “Internet Thugs” on all of the blogs calling the man a snitch. Well, I don’t blame you Antonio. Why get caught up in dumb a$$ Plaxico’s bull$hit. If you did help hide the gun as the prosecution claims then you did all of your “Homeboy” duties. SMH.

Plaxico Burress Done For The Season With Giants

Plaxico Burress Done For The Season With Giants

It might be a wrap for Plaxico in New York permanently after his antics this season:

The New York Giants expect Antonio Pierce to play in Sunday’s game against Philadelphia while the team gathers information on the linebacker’s involvement in a shooting that led to the season-ending suspension of star receiver Plaxico Burress.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Pierce would practice Wednesday with the Super Bowl champions.

“Each case is different, each is separate,” Coughlin said when asked about the decisive action the Giants took against Burress on Tuesday - fining and suspending him for four games, the rest of the regular season.

The team also placed Burress on the reserve non-football injury list for conduct detrimental to the team, which means he won’t be back for the playoffs, either.

Coughlin said there currently is no need to consider potential punishment of Pierce, the Giants’ leader of defense.

“There is no doubt we’ll do the right thing,” Coughlin added, “and that’s no threat to the players, they know that.”

The Giants punished Burress a day after he was charged with two counts of illegal weapons possession. He shot himself in the right thigh at a Manhattan nightclub early Saturday morning.

Pierce, who was with Burress, has not talked to police about his involvement since the incident. Authorities are trying to determine whether he tried to cover up the shooting; investigators impounded Pierce’s Cadillac Escalade and are searching it for any blood or gun residue.

He might face potential charges and a possible suspension if he did.

Coughlin said Wednesday that he used two words in discussing the Burress’ situation with the team - disappointment and sadness.

“That sums it all up,” Coughlin said. “I had a conversation with Plaxico. He was very humble. He was remorseful. Obviously that doesn’t change anything. But you have to understand that he is part of our team and our concern is with he and his family’s well being, and the ability of him to get through this circumstance and be healthy again.”

The Giants handed down their decision on Burress after Dr. Scott Rodeo, a team physician, examined Burress and told them the gunshot wound would sideline the 31-year-old player for 4-to-6 weeks.

The Giants (11-1) are deep at wide receiver, however, with players such as Domenik Hixon and Sinorice Moss who can replace the man who caught the game-winning pass in the 17-14 Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.

It would be much harder to replace Pierce.

Pierce smiled but declined to speak to The Associated Press on Wednesday morning when he reported to Giants Stadium about 8 a.m.

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw was also in the club, but not near the other two players, his attorney said.

Following the shooting, police say Pierce drove Burress to the hospital and returned to New Jersey with Burress’ gun in the glove compartment of his black Cadillac Escalade.

Pierce’s lawyer said Tuesday he contacted prosecutors as soon as he was hired by the linebacker on Monday.

“After the events in question, Mr. Pierce did what any other reasonable person would do under the circumstances, he hired counsel,” attorney Michael Bachner said. He said he hasn’t been notified that Pierce will be charged.

“Mr. Pierce, given the extraordinary circumstances of that evening, acted responsibly in trying to save what could have been the life of a friend,” Bachner said.

Bradshaw’s attorney, Charles Stacy, said his client wasn’t suspected of any wrongdoing.

Both players said they were planning to speak with the district attorney’s office soon.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke out again about the case Tuesday, saying he talked to Giants president John Mara and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. He told them the law says “you see something, you got to call the cops. That’s the thing you should do.”

Police also plan to interview the people at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center who treated Burress and did not report the shooting, as required by law.

Dr. Josyann Abisaab was suspended for not reporting Burress injury. She apparently arrived at the hospital at 2 a.m. to treat him, but it’s not clear why she was called.

Abisaab could not be reached for comment. She graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and has no history of state disciplinary action. She is affiliated with the hospital and specializes in internal and emergency medicine.

Giants officials expressed concern for Burress.

“As we have said since Saturday morning, our concern is for Plaxico’s health and well-being,” Mara said. “This is an important time for him to take care of his body and heal up and also deal with the very serious legal consequences and other issues in his life. When I spoke with Plaxico he expressed great remorse for letting down his teammates.”

Neither Burress nor his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was immediately available for comment.

Receiver Amani Toomer, whose 13 years with the team make his the current longest serving player, called the situation unfortunate.

“There is nothing good that will come out of it and there isn’t much to say,” he said as players reported for practice Wednesday. “It’s just tough, it’s just tough for everyone to deal with. I’m just glad he is OK. It could have been worse.”

Burress faces illegal weapons possession charges from the shooting, which carries a penalty of 3 1/2 to 15 years in prison if he’s convicted. Burress is due back in court again March 31, unless he reaches a plea agreement.

Fines in the NFL typically mean a player loses a paycheck for each game he misses. In Burress’ case, that would mean roughly $206,000 per regular season game. He also was due to receive $1 million from his signing bonus on Dec. 10. It was not immediately clear whether the team still had to make the payment.

Burress has been fined dozens of times since joining the team in 2005, and he was suspended for a game earlier this season for missing a team meeting. He was also fined $45,000 by the NFL for abusing an official and throwing a ball into the stands in a game.

Burress has caught 244 passes for 3,681 yards and 33 touchdowns since joining the team in 2005 as a free agent.

Plaxico Burress’ Bail Set At $250,000

Plaxico Burress’ Bail Set At $250,000

Plax has stepped into some real $hit this time:

The prosecutor had asked for a $250,000 bail due to the nature of the felony. His attorney argued that since Plax had a $35 million contract, he wasn’t going anywhere. Apparently, the judge agreed.

According to court docs that detail what went down over the weekend, Plax was holding a drink in his left hand while fidgeting around his waistband with his right. A witness reported hearing a loud “pop” sound and Plax saying, “Take me to the hospital.” His leg began to shake and a pistol fell out of his pant leg and onto the floor.

As for the illegal weapons charge, if convicted Plax could face as much as a 15-year prison sentence. His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, told the judge the gun in question had been registered in Florida and even though Plax has a house in New Jersey, he spends half his time in the Sunshine State.

Plaxico Burress To Turn Himself In To Police Today

Plaxico Burress To Turn Himself In To Police Today

Another dumb a$$ athlete who doesn’t understand how blessed he is:

Plaxico Burress plans to turn himself in to police Monday morning in New York City and plead not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, his lawyer said.

Benjamin Brafman wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Sunday that he was advised the New York Giants’ star receiver will be charged after accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh.

“I do not expect that Mr. Burress will make a statement,” Brafman wrote.

He met with Burress for about an hour Sunday at the player’s home in New Jersey.

“I would ask that his fans, the Giants and the media withhold judgment in this matter until all of the facts have been disclosed,” Brafman wrote to the AP.

Brafman is a well-known criminal lawyer who has defended mobsters and other high-profile figures, including hip-hop impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs on a bribery and gun possession charge in 2001.

Burress shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub Friday night and was released from a hospital early Saturday, the Giants said.

“As far as we know, he’s going to be OK,” general manager Jerry Reese said Sunday before the Super Bowl champions’ 23-7 victory at the Washington Redskins.

Before the shooting, Burress already had been ruled out of the game because of a leg injury.

New York police and NFL security are investigating what happened Friday. Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce was interviewed by NFL security at the team’s hotel Saturday, Reese said.

The NFL wouldn’t comment on the expected charge, Burress’ plan to plead not guilty or the league’s investigation.

“We are cooperating with the police and continuing to monitor the situation,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.

Pierce - who started against Washington - reportedly was present for the latest dramatic turn in a tumultuous season of fines and suspension for Burress.

“Antonio is working on trying to beat the Redskins right now,” Reese said before kickoff. “That’s where his focus is and where it should be right now.”

Pierce deflected several questions after the game. He wouldn’t say whether he has a lawyer and when asked if he is concerned about his own situation, Pierce replied only: “No. I’m fine where I’m at.”

“I am not answering any questions about the incident that happened Friday night,” the linebacker said. “If you have anything to say about the Washington Redskins, this game and moving forward, I’ll answer it. Anything else, I’m not answering.”

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he spoke to his players about Burress’ situation but wouldn’t get into specifics.

“We all are upset about what happened with Plaxico, and hopefully he’s going to be fine and so on and so forth. That’s our first concern,” Coughlin said. “Once that was taken care of, we knew that he was OK, then the guys got right back to focusing on the reason we were here.”

Coughlin wouldn’t address Burress’ future with the Giants, saying only, “Questions of that nature will be discussed going forward, I’m sure.”

Hours earlier, Reese and Giants president and CEO John Mara also avoided discussing what Burress’ status with the team might be.

“I want to wait until we find out all the facts and circumstances before we make any determination,” Mara said. “I don’t know what happened there, and until we find out exactly what happened, I’m not going to make any comment or make any decision about what his future is.”

Reese and Mara said they hadn’t spoken to Burress, who hurt his hamstring two weeks ago and was going to miss the game against the Redskins because of that injury.

“I reached out to him,” Reese said. “I did not get a return phone call.”

Mara repeatedly said the Giants would cooperate with the police and the NFL in their investigations.

Asked if he knows what the scope of those inquiries are, Mara said: “I do not know, no. I guess the circumstances of how he got shot, whose gun it was. There are a lot of questions like that that are still unanswered.”

Burress caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in the Giants’ Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots in February, following a regular season in which he scored a career-high 12 TDs. He was rewarded with a $35 million, five-year contract, only hours before the current season.

But his consecutive-games streak with at least one catch ended at 115 last week against Arizona, after he aggravated his hamstring injury during the first series and did not return.

Burress has 35 catches for 454 yards and four touchdowns while constantly drawing double coverage this season.

Off the field, he was suspended for a game against Seattle in October and fined $117,500 for missing a team meeting and failing to notify the Giants of his absence. He said he had a family emergency.

Burress also was fined $45,000 by the NFL for his conduct during a game against San Francisco in which he abused an official and tossed a ball into the stands.

“I don’t think people understand how good of a person he really is,” fellow receiver Amani Toomer said after catching a 40-yard touchdown pass in the Giants’ victory Sunday. “A good heart. I think he’s a good guy.”

Giant’s Receiver Plaxico Burress Shoots Himself

Giant’s Receiver Plaxico Burress Shoots Himself

New York City police were looking for Plaxico Burress last night to question him about accidentally shooting himself in the right thigh, the latest episode in a fast-growing list of off-the-field incidents that could potentially place his Giants career in jeopardy.

A police spokesman said the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. at The Latin Quarter nightclub in midtown, which was where Burress was believed to have been partying with two Giants teammates and his wife. The bullet went “in and out” of Burress’ leg without hitting a bone or artery, police said.

Burress, a wide receiver who earlier Friday was ruled out of today’s game against the Washington Redskins because of a hamstring injury, arrived at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Hospital with his wife, Tiffany, and an unidentified man, police said. He was admitted around 2 a.m. and treated and released before 1 p.m.

New York City police arrived at Burress’ sprawling $4-million home in Totowa, N.J., at 4:35 p.m. and spent 37 minutes outside the home. According to a police spokesman, Burress’ wife, Tiffany, told them, “You can’t come in. You can’t talk to my husband.”

Police made a second visit just after 7:30 p.m. and left when no one answered the door.

Burress has an expired concealed-weapon permit from Florida, which is where he lives in the offseason. But New York does not recognize Florida permits, putting Burress in jeopardy of facing criminal firearm possession charges, which is a felony.

Phone messages left at Burress’ house were not returned.

The Giants released a statement yesterday saying they have been in contact with Burress - and the NFL.

“We have been in touch with NFL Security on this matter,” the team’s statement said. “At this point, we are attempting to gather all the facts surrounding this incident. This incident could become a matter for law enforcement officials, and because of that, we have no comment on any of the details.”

A police spokesman also said they have reached out to the Giants to speak with the two unidentified teammates who were with Burress when the gun went off. According to police, the Giants have agreed to put police in touch with those two players, saying a meeting could be arranged this week after they return home from Washington, D.C. The New York Post identified linebacker Antonio Pierce as one of the teammates.

The Post also reported that Burress shot himself while fiddling with the gun as he was about to hand it to security guards before entering the club’s VIP section.

A New York City police spokesman said they had not heard that.

Police said they learned of the incident yesterday only after reports of the shooting surfaced around noon, because the hospital did not report the gunshot wound to police, as is expected. They sent detectives to the nightclub but could not find a gun or shell case. According to police, the Giants told them that a team representative might be able to bring them to a third location where the gun is currently being held.

The NFL, which has come down hard on the off-the-field conduct of its players in the past year, also is investigating the situation.

“We are gathering information, just like everyone else,” league spokesman Joe Browne said.

The NFL’s code of conduct includes a gun and weapons policy that urges players not to possess guns and that, if they do, they understand and follow applicable laws. The code warns players, “If you violate this policy on guns and other weapons, you are subject to discipline, including suspension from playing.”

This is the latest troublesome incident for Burress and the Giants to deal with since he scored the go-ahead touchdown in their upset win over the New England Patriots in last season’s Super Bowl in February.

Last summer, Totowa police responded to two domestic calls at Burress’ house.

On June 2 his wife called police and accused her husband of grabbing her during an argument. Burress said she slapped him in the face. No charges were filed, but a temporary restraining order was granted and later dismissed.

On Aug. 19, Tiffany Burress again called police after the two argued at a nightclub and Burress arrived home late and began playing loud music. She was granted another restraining order that was later dismissed by the state court.
